There's a direct connection linking Rome to Canada that's been running for almost forty years, and for summer 2026 it's set to grow even stronger. Air Transat has announced the resumption of direct flights from Rome Fiumicino to Toronto and Montréal, two of North America's most fascinating and cosmopolitan cities, with an enhanced schedule designed for both leisure travellers and those seeking new international connections. For anyone who loves great journeys, multicultural atmospheres and the boundless landscapes of eastern Canada, this is a real opportunity: direct flights, greater frequency and the chance to conveniently reach dream destinations such as Lima and Cancún with a single carrier.

Toronto and Montréal: two sides of Canada to experience

Since last April, Air Transat has reactivated direct Rome-Toronto connections, initially with three weekly flights, gradually increasing to daily service from 23 July.

Toronto is a city of grand urban thrills: a thoroughly modern skyline, multicultural neighbourhoods, cutting-edge museums and the charm of the iconic Niagara Falls, easily reached from the Canadian metropolis. It's an ideal destination for anyone seeking a mix of culture, nature and international lifestyle. Montréal also returns as a protagonist of summer 2026, with direct flights from Rome running from 18 April through to October. The Canadian city will offer five weekly flights, rising to daily service from 19 June.

Montréal, on the other hand, wins people over with its French-speaking soul, European-style cafés, summer festivals and the elegant atmosphere that makes it one of North America's most beloved cities.

From Rome also to Lima and Cancún

The real news of the 2026 season, however, concerns the expansion of international connections. Thanks to the Toronto and Montréal hubs, Air Transat will also make it possible to reach Lima, in Peru, and Cancún, in Mexico, conveniently departing from Rome Fiumicino.

This means Italian travellers will be able to organise even more comprehensive itineraries with a single air ticket, taking advantage of optimised connections and the convenience of the Rome hub.

Lima will be served three times a week via Toronto and Montréal, while Cancún will have daily connections.

"We've been connecting Rome to Canada for 39 years," said Tiziana Della Serra, Managing Director of Rephouse and Country Manager of Air Transat in Italy, highlighting the strategic value of Fiumicino airport and the strengthening of the partnership with Aeroporti di Roma. A historic partnership that continues to grow, aiming to expand travel opportunities between Italy and Canada in response to the growing demand for direct connections to North America.
